Child assassins come from the most dysfunctional households, where one or both significant figures is missing and, abuse, sexual abuse, lack of care, among others is present. They are hired for amounts ranging the five hundred dollars per month. The have posters recruiting children on the streets or in neighborhoods where people face situations of extreme poverty.

In many cases, the first step to recruit these children is to offer; friendship, food, clothing, shelter and legal protection.
